Hello there,

welcome to One Man’s Republic.

If you got here by accident or you’re here for the first time, let me briefly present to you what exactly this online space is about. Basically, it is a space in which written and visual forms are used to describe the life of one man. A man who finds fascination in playing with the Scottish Bagpipes in different cities, in living in a garage, office, or bakery, in singing and tap dancing in the dark, in analyzing the world of mathematics, in communicating with the best of the world’s writers, and in sometimes crawling away from solitude and exchanging energy and thoughts with other people-republics.

The word sophistication becomes dearer and dearer to me. Chatting with sophisticated people and finding sophisticated content on the road allow me to save my own time and energy. Not only save but also replenish it. It is because of this that my body began to desire a sophisticated online home. That’s just how the world is – you always need to devote a fraction of your energy to the surrounding contexts. Just as a beloved writer of mine, C.S.Lewis, could not escape from his participation in World War I, I cannot escape from the incorporation of technology into our everyday lives. As a theologian, Lewis could hardly find meaning in his participation in the battle. Just as I can hardly find meaning in technology.

But even if I have to travel with the prevailing contexts, I highly doubt that I would feel sophisticated if I put down all of my thoughts in a currently popular social media and websites rather than here. There are several reasons for this.

First of all, for me, aesthetics is one of the cornerstone ingredients of the concept sophistication. When creating any type of design or object, we always strive to get as close to perfect aesthetics as possible. It seems to me that this is merely a subconscious wish to identify with nature because nature’s visual is in itself perfect. Therefore, I always wish to return the thoughts that were born when I was surrounded by nature, back to nature in a form just as sophisticated as it. This is where my belief that any other form of social media would not be suitable for me comes from. Because social media always strikes me with its weak interpretation of aesthetics.

Another obstacle to publishing my thoughts on another platform is the term project. To me, this is one of the worst concepts of today’s world. I always want to have a relationship with almost eternal processes, but today’s society seems to be more fixated on projects – temporary processes with little long-term value. Why read Confucius, Marcus Aurelius - who have been relevant for thousands of years, if you can read something like “how to control your boss at work” - relevant only to situations defined by temporary social constructs.

How is the word project related to this online home? As scary as it is for me to admit, my online home has existed in one form or another for 15 years already. Throughout this time, there has been an enormous number of platforms to share thoughts on, which have continuously been replacing one another in terms of popularity – mIRC, various forums, Skype, MySpace, one.lt, Facebook, etc. If I had ever trusted any one of these platforms to share my thoughts on, they would have drowned somewhere online and disappeared by now. This is precisely the second reason for creating this online home – I believe that this is a sophisticated form of thought-sharing, which will allow my thoughts to live on for centuries without being dependent on a project with the mere purpose of sinking into oblivion.

All I wish is for you to find your own little room in this home, adopt one or two thoughts, and encounter as much sophisticated content, sophisticated forms, and sophisticated people on your own road as possible.
